Visiting the Taos New Mexico Pueblo
While you are vacationing in Red River, New Mexico you should plan an afternoon visit to the Taos Pueblo. It is only a beautiful 30 minute drive from Red River. The Taos Pueblo is the oldest living Native American Community. Archeologists say that ancestors of the Taos Pueblo were there long before Columbus discovered America. It is designated a National Historic Landmark and a World Heritage Site. You can watch pow-wows and ceremonial dances as well as view and purchasefine arts and crafts.
The artists of Taos Pueblo produce beautiful handcrafted wares using techniques passed down through generations. Tanned buckskin moccasins and drums are characterized by simplicity and enduring quality. Sculpture, painting and jewelry are contemporary expressions of traditional art forms. The Pueblo is known for micaceous clay pottery, which has been their utilitarian cookware through the ages. When you visit Taos Pueblo, you will have an opportunity to learn about history and culture, as well as purchase their fine arts and crafts.
