Christmas or the winter holidays is a spectacular and magical time to be in Red River, New Mexico. Thanksgiving kicks off the holiday season with the Red River Ski Area opening for the winter season as well as the annual tree lighting ceremony in the park and the first torchlight parade of the season. The holidays are also when the kids are out of school and Red River entertains more visitors than any other time of the year. Christmas and holiday hotel or lodging availability becomes scarce and limited. The week after Christmas is the most popular and hardest nights to obtain a vacation home or lodging during the holidays and it is also the busiest time of the year at the ski area, restaurants and everywhere else in town. Many times guests books these days a year in advance. My best advice...Visit Red River before December 27th when you can get the best deals and choices in lodging as well as enjoy safer, less crowded skiing, faster lift lines, smaller groups in ski lessons and shorter waits at your favorite restaurants.
